Today we’re going over a huge piece of news mentioned by Minnesota Wild insider Michael Russo on a recent episode of his podcast, on how the Wild almost ended up trading 2019 NHL Entry Draft 1st round pick and top NHL prospect Matthew Boldy to the Florida Panthers, for the 12th overall pick at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft with the intention of using the pick to select goaltender Yaroslav Askarov.

The trade didn’t go through as Askarov was selected 11th overall by the Nashville Predators instead.

Matthew Boldy was one of the top NHL prospects at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

The 2019 NHL Entry Draft saw many top NHL prospects get selected by a variety of teams. The first round of the draft went as follows:
