Casey Mittelstadt was a top prospect drafted out of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres 8th overall. Upon being drafted, Mittelstadt had a crazy good showing at the World Juniors for Team USA, while also posting some pretty okay numbers with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers Men’s Ice Hockey Team in the NCAA. Along with Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks, he was touted as the top NHL prospect at the time. However, after all that, Mittelstadt has been up and down with the Buffalo Sabres and the Rochester Americans, with less success than those taken after him in the draft, like Nick Suzuki and Martin Necas. This video asks why exactly that’s happening, and what’s going on with Mittelstadt?
